One of the questions that we get asked about every day is how to choose an air purifier. We are going to go over the different products in each price range and give our unbiased opinion on each machine. The price ranges are low end, midrange, and high end. All the brands that we will recommend will have HEPA filters. Air purifiers are a useful tool to help alleviate allergy symptoms, but its especially important to change the filters as needed or otherwise the machine cannot function properly.
One of the first things to consider is the size of the room that the air purifier will be cleaning. Most of the lower end units will exchange the air 2-5 times per hour in a room 200-250 sq. feet. We recommend getting a unit that will at least exchange the air 3 times per hour in the room you need filtration. Here are the models in the low-end range. All the info was taken from the manufacturers listing pages. We did not independently test these units.

For the low end price range all the models come in under $100. The Hosome advertises the absolute best ratings for the room size, but the low review count does lower the appeal of this unit. Overall, the Levoit air purifier is our pick in this price range. It has an H13 rated TRUE HEPA filter and based on the number and quality of reviews seems to be a very dependable unit. It also does not use Negative Ions of any kind for purification. This is important because Negative ions can create harmful ozone.

The Honeywell air purifier is the clear winner in this price range. With the most exchanges per hour per sq. ft. and the most reviews. This unit seems to be very dependable, and it has the backing of a large brand name like Honeywell. It costs a little more than the other two, but the price is justified based on the reviews and overall performance.

Keep in mind during your decision that there are some ultra-high-end models that cost over $1000. We did not include any of these in our picks because we would not recommend something in that price range. The few benefits and extra options they have do not warrant the extreme hike in price.
I hope these recommendations help you achieve better air quality in your home and offer you some peace of mind.
